Time to book a heart health check?

If you're 45 and over, or 30 and over if you're of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, you should book your heart health check today.

Having a regular Heart Health Check with your GP will help you better understand your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Our GP or nurse will check your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. You may also be asked about any medical or family history and lifestyle which all play an important part in assessing your risk of heart disease.

Did you know?

One Australian has a heart attack or stroke every four minutes. Many people may not be aware of their risk factors for heart disease. Also, some risk factors like high blood pressure or high cholesterol can be silent.

Protect yourself and others.

Winter is here and respiratory diseases are abound.

If you have any of the following cold/flu symptoms including (but not limited to) sore throat, fever, headache, bodyaches, diarrhoea or vomiting, please kindly have a negative COVID-19 RAT before attending in person and wear a face mask at all times when inside the practice. This is our way of protecting all patients and our dedicated practice staff so that we can look after you.

Prevention is better than cure.

Are you up to date with your health screening?

Bowel Cancer Screening

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia. This cancer often develops without any symptoms. It can grow in the bowel for years before spreading to other parts of the body.

The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program reduces illness and death from bowel cancer by helping detect the early signs of the disease using a free, simple bowel screening test that can be done at home. Every two years, people aged from 50 to 74 years will receive a test kit called an immunochemical faecal occult blood test (iFOBT) which helps detect tiny amounts of blood in your poo that can be a sign of bowel cancer. For more information, go to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

Cervical Screening Test

(Previously known as Pap Smear)

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers. All women and people with a cervix from 25 to 74 years of age are eligible to participate in the National Cervical Screening Program which aims to prevent cervical cancer with regular testing every five years. The Cervical Screening Test (CST) looks for human papillomavirus (HPV) - a common virus that can cause cervical cancer.

Cervical screening does not check for, or prevent, other cancers such as ovarian or endometrial cancer.

The CST can be done through our doctors. It’s likely to take just a few minutes. If you're due or overdue, book now to talk to one of our doctors about your screening options, including the option of self-collection.

Mammogram (Breast Screen)

A screening mammogram is used to check for breast cancer in women who have no signs or symptoms. It is recommended for all women aged 50 to 74. Mammography screening is freely available to eligible women every two years, under the BreastScreen Australia program.

Women aged 40-49 can also be screened free of charge. However, it’s important to note that breast screening is less effective for women in this age group. This is because the density of breast tissue makes it more difficult to see a cancer on the x-ray, which means you may be asked to come back for further tests.

If you are aged over 74, t’s a good idea to talk to your doctor first to see whether breast screening is a priority for you.

It is also important for women of all ages to get to know the normal look and feel of their breasts. If you notice any changes or feel something unusual, talk to your doctor.
